3rd NATIONAL ENTERTAINMENT AWARDS (NEA2019) IN SIERRA LEONE
NOMINATION AND VOTING CRITERIA
The organisers of the NEA awards aim to present an award scheme that is representative of the opinion of the general public as well as industry professionals. To this end, a selection process has been structured over the years to that reflect the various entities.
- COLLECTION OF ENTRIES /NOMINATION / CATEGORISATION PROCESS
Blank lists of nomination categories are made available for download online at www.lakeproductionsl.com or through our general enquiries Whatsapp line +23230 624762 along with definitions. Hard copies of the nomination lists are also made available in all sixteen (16) districts of the country, including the Sierra Leone Film Council (SLFC), Sierra Leone Musicians Union (SLMU), Music and Movie Marketers Union Sierra Leone (MMMUSL), International Theatre Institute, Sierra Leone Promoters and Bloggers Union (SLPU), Sierra Leone Pageantry, Modelling and Producers Association, Sierra Leone DJ’s Union, Union of Musical Performing Artists Sierra Leone (UMPA) and Sierra Leone Association of Comedians (SLACs).
Entries were also received from the following:
- Published call for entries in the Press
- Nomination forms submitted by Record Companies.
- Nomination forms submitted to all major radio stations
- Nomination forms submitted to all Television stations
- Nomination form submitted to audioafrica – Africa’s #1 Music & Entertainment App and Platform
- Google and other internet search engines are used to track online releases and to verify dates of release
- Data from Mobile Content companies are also used to verify releases
- Nominations gathered are subjected to short listing by members of the NEA BOARD OF TRUSTEES.
NOTE: The form/list of nomination categories is expected to be completed and submitted through the official entry email address at email@example.com or www.lakeproductionsl.com. All nomination form MUST be submitted before or by the 30th September 2019 (the official closing date of all public nominations).
- ENTRY ELIGIBILTY
To be eligible for a NEA 2019, the work (Music and TV/Film) should have been released/ premiere between 1st October 2018 and 30th September 2019.
- Film/TV/Music Video Submission
Each entry may be submitted by only one individual or organization and supported by multiple nomination entries by industry professionals and where there is a tie, the norminees’ fans will be factored in. If the film is a co-production, the entrant assumes full responsibility for notifying the other co-production partners of the entry. In the event of multiple entries for the same film, copyright ownership will determine which entry is accepted. The entrant (producer) is responsible for securing and clearing all rights.
An electronic press kit (EPK) is required for submitted finalists that are shortlisted. The said kit together with a high-resolution digital download of the film/music video/comedy skit (MPEG4/ h264 @1080p / 10—25mbps) H264/MPEG are to be sent via www.lakeproductionsl.com/video-submission. The goal is to showcase original productions that are wise, brave, eye-opening and creative, which increase the awareness of viewers to national and global issues and efforts an agent of change worldwide.
- Entry Fees
This year the entry fee for all submissions (films and music videos) is FREE. All films and music video submissions must be accompanied by the Producer/Director for manual submission at the AYV Media Empire head office at Wesley Street, Tower Hill in Freetown or uploaded online for submission via WeTransfer at firstname.lastname@example.org
**NOTE: Movies/Skits/Music Videos merely geared towards fundraising or brand advertising are NOT ACCEPTED.
- THE CATEGORISATION PROCESS
The NEA Board of Trustees compiles all entries received into the appropriate categories and provides a final nomination list which is published for public voting. It is a very tedious and painstaking exercise, which requires a number of sittings to generate the final list of nominees.
- VOTING PROCESS
The NEA maintains the three-tier voting system i.e. Electronic Mobile Voting (SMS), the Online Voting www.lakeproductionsl.com / Facebook and the NEA Board of Trustees with the various percentage divided as follows:
- Electronic Mobile Voting (SMS): – 50%
- The Online Voting lakeproductionsl.com/Facebook: – 20%
- NEA Board of Trustees: -30%

- NEA Board of Trustees – 100%
- VOTING CHANNELS/MECHANICS
The following Electronic Mobile Voting (SMS) channels will be used for voting for the NEA 2019. Voting on mobile phone could be done either by Orange/Africell/Qcell via the example short code XXX. The general public is allowed to vote for their favourite artists, film makers, comedians, media personalities and other categories as many times as possible by texting the names to xxx
- To vote, subs will send the following SMS to the short code xxx in the following formats:
e.g. For the Best Female Artist of the Year:
Best Female Artist of The Year #Aminata or in short: BFA# Aminata
The above examples will be operative in all categories. Final shortlisted categories would be published and listed at www.lakeproductionslcom/ or ‘’National Entertainment Award’’ Facebook page and all major media outlets across the country.
- Every SMS sent to the short code xxx will be charged at Le. 500 per an agreed unit.
- World renowned business advisory firm – KPMG will supervise and tabulate all the votes and results will be presented on the night of the event.
- AWARDS RECIPIENTS
In the General Film Entry category – Award recipient is limited to two persons: one is credited to the directors who exercise directorial control and the other is credited to the producer/director. For the individuals and companies with similar claims, only the actor/actress or the company/label CEO or manager is recognized/credited
- PRE-PRESS, PUBLICITY, MEDIA
Entry in this competition grants LAKE Production (SL) Limited the right to use clips (2 minutes maximum), photographs, and biographical data for publicity and promotional purposes for the NEA awards website, as well as websites of LAKE’s promotional partners, media sponsors, and web aggregators. All entrants (if shortlisted) in the documentary, comedy skit and music video category agree to release the digital video file of their production for online circulation to be curated on NEA Facebook, websites and all online platforms. LAKE Production (SL) Limited reserves the right to use any submitted materials for all promotional purposes, including all existing and future media platforms in perpetuity.
All entrants agree to release digital files of their production for non-circulation reference at the NEA organizers archive. DVDs and publicity materials submitted to NEA will not be returned.
